Arthur Alston

Arthur Fawssett Alston (1872–1954) was an Anglican bishop, the third Bishop of Middleton from 1938 until 1943.〔The Times, Monday, Aug 02, 1943; pg. 6; Issue 49613; col C Ecclesiastical News Suffragan Bishop Of Middleton to retire〕
Educated at Clare College, Cambridge and Ridley Hall, he was ordained priest in 1896.〔“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 A curacy at ''St Simon’s Southsea'' was followed with Yorkshire incumbencies. From there he became Rural Dean then Archdeacon of Hastings before becoming a Canon Residentiary of Manchester Cathedral, from which post he ascended to the Episcopate.
His son Rex Alston was a famous cricket commentator.
